Thanksgiving should be a way of life for every Christian. We serve a wonderful God who sent his Son to die for us. So as we continue to reflect on what we are thankful for this year, remember God's blessings in our lives! There are always blessings to be thankful for. While we get ready to celebrate this holiday of Thanksgiving, let's remember to make the choice to always have an attitude of thankfulness.
Come enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings this Thursday, Novermber 23, at 1:30pm. Even better than the food is the time of felllowship and fun. Following our meal you can join in or just sit back and enjoy our annual talent show. Bring your favorite dish to share or just bring yourself. All are welcome!
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. -Psalms 118:1
From September 24th through the 30th, 2017 the Valley church was blessed with a series of Bible lessons from Mark Batteiger. Mark and his sweet wife Candy were visiting us from Minot, North Dakota. Mark is the current preacher at the Minot church of Christ. He has been a preacher and school educator for over 26 years. We got to know the Batteigers through Rick Collins and had heard many good things about his passionate and careful way he taught the Bible.
We invited Mark to teach the Valley congregation on a series of topics under the heading of Reaching and Keeping the Next Generation. He brought us six powerful and practical lessons. The schedule included two lessons on Sunday and one each evening Monday to Wednesday. At our request, Mark included a special Saturday morning class to give our Bible class teachers some useful tools to improve our education program. The lesson titles were:
- Let’s Take a Test
- The Great Commission
- Your Child’s Worldview
- It’s All About Motivation – the Bible Way
- Learn, Teach, Live The Story
- Practice Does Not Make Perfect
Mark is very careful to teach the Bible faithfully as God has given it to us. But he also teaches with an energy and flair that keeps the listeners focused and motivated to learn. The lessons were very practical and useful to students of all ages. Mostly, the lessons are helping us build faith in our congregation to have a strong and healthy church body into the future.
We thoroughly enjoyed Mark and Candy visiting us. Their loving service to God’s church is obvious as we got to know them. Our prayers for them are that God will guide and use them to bring energetic quality and practical lessons from God’s Word to many others for many years to come.
Each October the ladies from the Valley look forward to our special time to retreat from the world. We spend nearly 24 hours together singing, praying, listening, discussing, fellowshipping, sharing, crafting, eating and sometimes sleeping.
This year our Ladies’ Retreat, which was held on October 20-21, had the theme “God is Able” taken from Ephesians 3:20.
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”
This powerful little verse packs a huge punch when applied to our walk as Christians.
Throughout the years we have had many speakers come and share with us. Most of them have been from congregations around Alaska. This year we were blessed to have Dana Jaworski from Anchor Point. Dana gave us four wonderful lessons to remind us that God’s incredible power working in us is able to do more than we could ever imagine. All of Dana’s lessons were recorded and are available to watch at the following link: Ladies Retreat Lessons on YouTube
The food, the decorations, and the take-home favors were over-the-top, as usual. But the spirit of unity, the beautiful hearts and the joy of being together sharing God’s beautiful Word was priceless.
Thank you, ladies, for another great retreat!
We would love to have everyone come and join in at this years statewide lectureship; but we understand there may be conditions that make prevent that. Don't fret, all of the main sessions will be live streamed and made available afterwords online.
