“Whispers of the River” Original Acrylic on Linen 30cm x 40cm – SOLD
Stephen’s Inspiration: “The Azure Kingfisher seeks some shelter in the shade of some dense vegetation along the river bank. Patiently staying ever so still in a low-lying branch waiting for its next catch. The Kingfisher seeks a variety of food whether it be small fish, yabbies, water beetles, spiders, locusts, and small frogs or tadpoles. Being small in size It is often difficult to see until it quickly darts from a perch above water. The colours of the Azure are exactly as titled with a striking brilliant azure or deep blue plumage on its head, back, and upper parts, a bright orange-reddish breast and belly, a long, slender black bill, red legs with only two forward-facing toes, and white spots on the sides of its neck. These striking colours make the bird easily identifiable and that being my focus for this painting was to simplify the background and focus on capturing this beautiful distinct Azure Kingfisher in the moment. I was fortunate enough to see one of these beautiful birds at a quick stop along the Upper Daintree River near Port Douglas on our way to Cape Tribulation. This was very unexpected. Although what was a great moment for myself seeing the Kingfishers amazing colours in person it was short lived and it quickly flew off”.
