Under the Cover of Darkness (Greater Glider)

Natalie’s Inspiration: “Greater Gliders are one of my favourite Australian animals and sadly they are an endangered species. I am in love with their cute faces and fluffy ears. Not many people know about this beautiful glider. I decided to paint this magnificent animal to help raise awareness and also donate a portion of the sale price to conservation programs. The Australian Wildlife Society have chosen the Greater Glider as their feature animal for 2024. This Society was founded in 1909 and is dedicated to the protection of our flora and fauna.  100% of any donations go directly to wildlife conservation projects across Australia. Tree clearing, forest destruction, bush fires and climate change are placing their population at risk. With out old growth forests and the hollows found in those established trees to call home, Greater Gliders cannot survive. I have to thank Josh Bowell for allowing me to use his amazing photography as reference for this painting.  The patience to find these animals in the wild and photograph them is a feat in itself! Living high up in the canopy these beautiful animals are relatively silent,  so it’s mainly by eye reflection that they are spotted. I hope you like this painting I feel it is quite special”.
