Natalie’s Inspiration: “I have always been attracted to tropical forests around our country, I love little orchids with moss and lichens that cover the branches amongst the trees. I love painting in the endless green colour tones when I add them to my artworks. Creating this piece featuring the striking pink blooms of a Cooktown Orchid was a lovely change.
I was approached by Ashdene to paint a series of artworks featuring Australian Floral Emblems. I jumped at the chance to create something a little different in subject. Flowers are not my usual subject to paint, especially as the main focal point. I also decided to sneak in an insect (other than my usual trademark ant), so this series was as much fun as it was challenging!! A very weird combination emotionally, but very rewarding. This series is destined to be published on homewares including bone china coffee cups, scatter trays, tea towels, placemats and other items. They will be released later this year.”
