Robyn’s inspiration for this painting “This spectacular eucalypt has been much photographed over the years and painted by me on several occasions. Ormiston Gorge would have to be one of the most popular places to be visited along the West MacDonnell Ranges, simply for its beauty. On the occasion I painted this, there had been plenty of rain – more water in the Gorge more than I had ever seen before. I particularly liked the reflected light on the trunk of the tree and the side lit foliage. The hills behind are mostly in shadow and purple which helped the tree stand out against the colourful background.”
