The Orchard Watchers (Pale Headed Rosellas) Original Acrylic on Claybord 30.5cm x 40.6cm ‘

Greg’s Inspiration: “For this painting, I wanted to capture a softer, more peaceful side of Australian birdlife — two Pale-headed Rosellas settled on a macadamia branch, with the landscape falling away behind them. I wanted to create a gentle contrast between the birds’ pale yellow heads and the rich blues of their wings and tails. The setting has a lush, subtropical feel, and I wanted the painting to suggest a quiet moment in the canopy, where the birds are part of the landscape rather than separate from it. Painting them as a pair also gave the work a sense of companionship and calm.

The Pale-headed Rosella (Platycercus adscitus) is a beautiful parrot found mainly in eastern Australia, particularly through Queensland and into northern New South Wales. It is known for
its soft yellow head, blue cheek patches, scalloped back markings and vivid blue wings and tail. Pale-headed Rosellas are often seen in open forests, woodlands, farmland edges and gardens, where they feed on seeds, fruits, flowers, buds and other plant material. Like many rosellas, they nest in tree hollows and are usually seen in pairs or small groups. Their gentle colouring and graceful presence make them one of Australia’s most charming parrots.”
