Tenterfield Saddler Limited Edition Giclee Reproduction 72cm x 52cm

Tenterfield Saddler” is a painting inspired by the song written by Peter Allen as a tribute to his much-loved grandfather, George Woolnough. Since 1860, the distinctive blue-granite building on the High Street has primarily been a saddlery, but in other times a private residence, a bank and presently a museum celebrating George Woolnough and his time as the Tenterfield Saddler. Visitors have always been welcomed there and one famous customer was Banjo Patterson.

Of course, it is much more than this. It is a gentle reminder of how Australia used to be—at least in the hundreds of country towns where mateship, resilience and a sense of humour were once and still are, the living traditions that bonded a community together through the recurring natural disasters—droughts, floods and bushfires and the challenging times of two world wars, the Great Depression and economic hardship that continues to this day.

The Tenterfield Saddlery stands as a symbol of these irreplaceable Aussie country towns.
