Summer on the Clarence

Original Oil Painting 45cm x 35cm Canvas by John Bradley

This picturesque scene was originally painted when I was travelling with my painting buddy, Jeff we had up until this point in our travels encountered torrential rain mists and very low visibility. I had almost given up any hope of getting a study or sketch material from the trip when the clouds suddenly parted the sun came through revealing a rain-washed colourful scene.  I’ve reworked the painting two or three times since its initial creation and feel that I finally captured the essence of this section of the Clarence River. The large cumulus clouds are still present in the background, but the sun is lighting up the middle-distance homestead and cattle. Although the scene looks green and verdant from all the rain the foreground indicates more of the summer grass and foliage is painted in the warmer tones.
