Frances’s Inspiration: “One of the best things about the arrival of spring are the male Fairy-wrens preparing to impress and charm the females with their glorious regalia. During the winter, males look very like the brown, plain females. However, spring heralds the arrival of lots of wren courtship, colour and activity! I came across this lovely bird twittering and impressing his lady with all the ardour of a lovestruck young swain. He’s captured at the very moment he’s just about to spring off a dead branch to capture an insect snack. There were lots of blossoming wattle trees filling the air with their heady scent of honey. I’ve added a few shoots of wattle for a touch of green and a reminder that the cold winter is over and spring has sprung at last!”.
