Frances’s Inspiration: “After many days of relentless heat, we finally had some welcome rain. This lovely bird was seen enjoying a refreshing bath in a puddle of rainwater, splashing and dipping with free abandon!
I decided to make the background darker than it actually was, as this enhances the sunlit brilliance of the bird. A bird as stunning as this deserves no less!Along with my standard watercolours, I enjoyed adding additional touches of gouache to this painting. Gouache is opaque watercolour, the perfect choice when needing to paint over darker areas or add highlights, as seen here in the water reflections”.
