This painting is in John’s “Blue Mountains Magic” book, which includes views from the Blue Mountains region and the head ranger has written all of the text.  He has used his knowledge from 28 years experience in the Blue Mountains working all of this time for the National Parks and Wildlife making this the only substantial and accurate publication on the Blue Mountains.  This beautiful coffee table stylebook has been published with 62 magnificent colour plates taken from John’s paintings this being one of them.  That makes this painting an excellent collector’s piece.

This very large work by John creates a stunning scene showing you a panoramic view of the Queen’s Cascades in the Blue Mountains.  These falls are located about 1 km from the town of Wentworth falls just off the end of Falls Rood.  Here you witness Wentworth Falls themselves and below them the Queen Cascades.  Some of the mountains finest bushwalks, including the Charles Darwin walk are in this area.  The picturesque Queens Cascades and Wentworth Falls Lake is an ideal family picnic spot and BBQ area.  There is heaps of ducks to feed.  Sunlight slanting across the canopy of towering gums and softer ferns, which, surround Bluegum Forest and the Jamison Valley, provides what is arguably one of the finest panorama in the Blue Mountains.

Wentworth Falls is one of the most beautiful towns within the Blue Mountains offering possibly the most spectacular bushwalks and views. Originally called ‘Weatherboard’ after the ‘Weatherboard Hut’ built in 1814, one year later the town was named ‘Jamison’s Valley’ by Governor Macquarie. In July 1867 the historic first railway journey in the Blue Mountains left Penrith station and travelled through to Weatherboard Station where the train terminated. It wasn’t until 1879 that the name was changed to Wentworth Falls in honour of William Charles Wentworth, one of the three famous explorers. When travelling from Bullaburra to Wentworth Falls you ascend Boddington Hill.
