Natalie’s Inspiration: “My inspiration for “Patiently Waiting ” came from wanting to paint a large canvas that was visually striking with a key focus. The Barking Owl is known for its solitary nature, often described to have an eerie yet captivating ambience. With this in mind, I decided to create a moody atmosphere with a vague backdrop. I used acrylic paints with a large range of brushes to blend the softness as well as the intricate details. My focal point is the large piercing yellow eyes, which are an incredibly important feature of this beautiful bird. Painted from my own reference photos taken from Blackbutt Reserve in Newcastle”.
This paining was selected as a finalist in the 2023 Holmes Prize for Realist Bird Art
