Natalie’s Inspiration: “I never tire of painting kookaburra’s and having them as locals, they are constantly posing for photo moments. But the actual reference photos for this big fellow was captured close to 11 years ago!! After one of the annual Wildlife exhibitions James Hough, Stephen Jesic and I decided to go on a day trip to Barrington Tops National Park. I snapped over 400 photos on that day, mainly of the beautiful scenery – ferns, native orchids, moss covered branches, and waterfalls – a scenic paradise for inspiration!! We also captured a pair of content kookaburras perched in a tree. The afternoon light was perfect. I can’t believe it has taken me over ten years to finally get to painting this fellow. I’m so glad that he has found his way out of my computer photo files and onto the wall”.
