John’s Inpsiration: “The painting captures the golden glow of an early morning in the beautiful Megalong Valley, located in Australia’s famous Blue Mountains. The light is suffused into the damp morning air with soft rays of light filtering through the foliage of the large gum tree on the right of the painting. A campsite in the distance encourages the viewer to put themselves into this idyllic setting. The massive sandstone bluffs are lit up with morning light and are reflected in the gently flowing waters of Megalong Creek. A splash of autumn colour from introduced species and a flight of colourful Rainbow Lorikeets in the foreground add interest and focus to the work. The “S” composition of the creek is designed to slow the viewer’s entry into the distance and the fallen branches help to convey the untouched nature of the scene. The painting was created from a number of photographs and sketches collected over several years”.
