Lost Ball Original Oil on Board 41cm x 31cm by Kevin Best

“When kids play bush cricket, it’s almost certain that the ball will be lost at some stage.  One day our kids and friends were playing cricket in a paddock near a creek.  Our dog “Kelly” was there too.  As expected, very soon there were kids looking like Emus scratching around in the grass etc.  The cry went up ‘Lost Ball’.  No one noticed that Kelly had the ball in her mouth!”  Here you can see how Kevin has captured the rays of light and the mist in the background, called backlighting.

Kevin is renowned for his use of light in his works, rays of light, mists, sun, rises and sun sets.  Other artist’s say his signature is light.  Many people have been touched by the beauty of Kevin’s work – the rays of light streaming through the gum trees look like fingers of God.  Kevin believed that the greatest teacher is nature itself.  Little wonder that his paintings radiate light and subtle moods of the great variety of scenes in this great country.  With no outside training his natural ability has taken the form of “feeling” on canvas and he would sit under a big gum tree soak up the atmosphere and every facet of the landscape and creatures before him.  He then painted small studies to get the colours right before the light changed.  From these small studies, he painted larger pictures in his studio
