Greg’s Inspiration: “I wanted to place this Peregrine Falcon in a landscape that felt worthy of its presence — wild, exposed and powerful. I’ve travelled through the Tasmanian High Country and have always been struck by its dramatic mix of weather, rock, open sky and ancient-looking terrain. It feels like a place shaped by wind, time and survival. In this painting, I wanted the falcon to appear completely at home in that environment: alert, watchful and utterly in command of the space around it.
The Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) is one of the world’s most remarkable birds of prey and is found across much of Australia, including Tasmania. It is famous for its incredible speed, particularly when diving in pursuit of birds in flight. Peregrines often nest on cliff ledges, rocky outcrops and high structures, choosing places that give them a commanding view over the surrounding landscape. With its dark hood, strong body, hooked beak and powerful talons, the Peregrine has a presence that is both beautiful and formidable — a perfect symbol of precision, strength and wild freedom.”
