Robyn’s Inspiration: “If you really look at a Bluebottle you can see how beautiful they really are. Iridescent blues and many with bright purple along their ridge, they stand like puffed up jewels on the sand. On this particular day a huge wind had sprung up along the South Coast of NSW and the beach was littered with them at low tide. Inspired to paint but not to swim I avoided the water but one foolish man jumped into the ocean – only to exit fairly quickly after being stung. They are a fantastic challenge to paint, just their transparency alone is difficult enough to achieve. So many countless wonderful and weird things in the ocean – a bluebottle is just one of them”.
