“Good Luck”(Kookaburra) Original Acrylic on Stretched Cotton Canvas 50cm x 50cm
Stephen’s Inspiration: “I wanted to have the presence felt by creating this artwork by capturing its distinctive focused beauty. From it’s white to cream-coloured body, brown wings with sky blue spots to its rusty reddish brown tail and brown stripes. Having the kookaburra resting on a decaying gum tree branch being overtaken by an unforgiving vine its focused appearance providing a strong point of symbolism to the dense environment”.
The kookaburra being the largest species of kingfisher emerges as a symbol of profound significance. Embodying essential qualities of colour, communication and awakening. In some cultures, it is regarded as a messenger of good luck or a sign as favourable change is to come. Not only does seeing a kookaburra signify good luck, but the laughter can also mean a signal of rain coming! With this symbolism and distinct characteristics of the kookaburra I have always felt that when one is seen though are not as common as one would like.
