Gondola on the Rio San Lorenzo, Venice 23cm x 31cm Original Oil on Primed Belgian Linen
by Ramon Ward – Thompson
Venice is one of the few cities in the world that can truly be described as unique. Behind the well known area of St. Marks Square and the Doge’s Palace are to be found a world of pretty and often confusing narrow cobbled alleyways leading to little picturesque bridges that span the many canals winding their way through the ancient city. Rio di San Lorenzo is one of the larger canals in the Castello district of Venice. Mainly a residential area it is characterised by narrow alleys, elegantly faded palazzi and fine churches.
A bright and clear Venice morning where the bright sunlight is capturing the warm stonework of the ancient building and the dark red and black colours of the gondola are seen reflected in the waters of the Rio di San Loranzo.
