Robyn’s inspiration:- “This painting took me 50 plus hours to complete. I am always inspired to paint the ethereal beauty of Australia’s rainforests. Today rainforest covers only 0.25% of Australia yet contains half of Australia’s plant species and one third of bird and mammal species. For me they represent nature in its rawest form – the damp earthy smell of the decaying forest floor, the jewel-like quality of the moss, the gentle mists and the strange bird sounds that echo through the canopy. I love the challenge of creating the moss in oils as it takes many layers to build up light and texture – creating the effect I want. Quite often I feel quite burnt out after a large painting such as this one….yet I have to keep going until it completed. I never jump from painting to painting. Each one has to be done to completion before I can move on to another”.
Forest of the Fallen was created from many photographs of the Tarkine Rainforest in Tasmania, which is still being logged to this day in spite of continual protests.
