John’s Inspiration: “Berrima is one of the villages of the Southern Highlands. The atmosphere and character of the village reflects the “authentic” and tells the story of the culture and heritage of the region. There must be some magnetic influence that makes me go back time and time again to the same area, at every visit I experience the same urge, the same enjoyment and excitement when painting in that environment. In this painting, I try to capture the entrance to the village, with its famous Colonial Inn. The village was reasonably affluent with a variety of sandstone and brick buildings, many of which still stand today.”
