“Country Charm” is a vibrant celebration of the Australian countryside, bringing together colourful native wildlife and the nostalgic character of an old country farm. Eastern Rosellas take centre stage, perched among weathered timber, rustic fencing and old farm machinery. Their brilliant red, yellow, blue and green plumage creates a striking contrast against the soft greens and golden tones of the surrounding landscape.
Native to southeastern Australia, the Eastern Rosella (Platycercus eximius) is one of Australia’s most distinctive and colourful parrots. It is commonly found in open eucalypt woodland, farmland, parks and gardens, from Brisbane to Adelaide and throughout Tasmania. The name Rosella is believed to have originated with early settlers who regularly saw these birds around Rose Hill, between Sydney and Parramatta. They called them “Rose Hillers”, a name that was eventually pleasantly corrupted to “Rosella.”
They are recognised by their distinctive scalloped back pattern and colourful cheek markings, features characteristic of the rosella group. Females closely resemble males, while young birds gradually develop the striking colouring of the adults. They are generally seen in pairs or small groups and tend to remain close to the area where they were born rather than travelling long distances.
Their varied diet includes seeds, grain, blossoms, nectar, fruit and insects, gathered both from the ground and among the trees. When feeding on fruit, they are often seen holding it securely in one foot while using their strong bill to reach the pulp or seeds.
Beyond the birds, rolling green fields, a weathered timber shed and distant forested hills create a peaceful rural setting.
