Eyes at Night (Sooty Owls) Original Acrylic on Claybord 40cm x 50cm – SOLD

Natalie’s Inspiration: “This is the first time that I have painted this beautiful species of owl, I feel there is something quite mysterious about these nocturnal birds, maybe it has something to do with the smokey darkness around their eyes….. no wonder they are called Sooty Owls.  I haven’t had the opportunity to see these birds first-hand in the wild, when that time becomes a reality, I’m sure it will be a special moment.  A big thank you to my good friend, Rick Worthy for his generosity to allow me to use his photographs as a reference for this painting.  I thoroughly enjoyed painting “Eyes at Night “, the subtle colour tones in the Owls were a unique palette of very dark colours, bordering on monochrome. Another feature in this painting is the branch the birds are perched on, I love the life on this branch. It was just as time-consuming to paint as the birds! I photographed this at Barrington Tops National Park, a favourite place of mine to visit”.

Natalie’s real love is painting small animals, native to Australia.  She completed her Associate Diploma of Fine Arts at Newcastle University.  She was born on 16th April 1971 and is a young artist with a bright future.
