Robyn’s inspiration for this painting “Having spent many months in the desert country, both working as Artist in Residence, walking and traveling, I have come to love it passionately. The wide-open spaces, the quiet, the slower pace of life, all I find touched my soul deeply. This studio work was painted from my last trip to Uluru some years ago. I have found a huge difference between a recent visit and the time I first came as Artist in Residence in the 80’s where much more freedom was allowed in exploring the area. I particularly loved walking the lit-up path of a night time through the red sand and watching the stunning milky way. Flying back into Sydney after a visit to the desert is always a terrible shock to the system where the speed of life seems to double and there is hardly time to catch your breath.”
