Sunlit Ramparts of the Megalong Original Oil on Board 60cm x 45cm
John’s Inspiration:- Having spent the past fifty years walking, filming, photographing and painting the magnificent Blue Mountains of NSW, I can honestly say it is still my favourite painting location. Living in Katoomba for a number of years gave me easy access to the Megalong Valley and the adjacent Jamison Valley which resulted in a large number of paintings and a book, “Blue Mountains Magic”.
This, my most recent painting of the Megalong Valley features the sunlit sandstone buttresses softly reflected in the Cox’s River.
Flanked by tall gums and flowering shrubs, the composition is different to many of my paintings which looked down into the valleys, creating depth and distance. This scene is more contained and intimate.
