“Magical World” (Lady Elliot Island) Original Oil on Stretched Canvas 122cm x 71cm

Robyn’s inspiration: “I have wanted to do another very large underwater painting for some time so I finally plucked up the courage to paint one. These are very time consuming with so much detailed coral to work on. This painting is done from about 6 different photographs to make up the composition while still remaining true to the distinctive underwater world of Lady Elliot Island. Apart from turtles it also shows Blue Fin Trevally, Scissor tailed Sergeant and Blue Chromis.

The reefs of Lady Elliot Island are a thriving, protected part of the Great Barrier Reef, renowned for their vibrant, healthy coral, exceptional visibility, and abundant marine life, including large populations of manta rays, turtles, and diverse fish species, making it a premier spot for snorkeling, diving, and eco-tourism within a highly protected “Green Zone”. This coral cay, at the southern tip of the GBR, showcases a successful ecological comeback from past mining, now serving as a living laboratory for marine research and sustainable tourism.”
