Painter of Historic Buildings

Pen & Ink on Fine Art Paper

Val has two passions in life – history and painting.  Her fine pen and pencil drawings of homesteads (and the odd wren, parrot, finch or kookaburra), with delicate watercolour over-wash have long been recognised as outstanding, and are very much in demand.
Val resides in the Hunter Valley and has illustrated the Hunter’s homesteads and grand old buildings for 30 years.  First Val researches the building, finding out who built them, construction dates, alterations, who lived in them and then locates any old photographs or drawings of them.  If it still exists, Val then photographs it.  Armed will all that information Val then painstakingly draws them with pen and ink, and then adds a water colour wash to complete the painting.  They are 100% architecturally accurate.
Val varies each work by changing the angles of the home, adding in a different garden, perhaps a wisteria growing along a verandah… so that every painting is unique.  Lastly Val provides a history of the homestead with every artwork, from the research she has done.
