HMAS Sydney Off Cape Spada

HMAS Sydney Off Cape Spada 101.5cm x 60cm Original Oil on Stretched Belgian Linen by Ian Hansen

Ian’s inspiration: The Sydney in company with HMS Havock engaging two Italian Cruisers, off the island of Crete 17th July 1940. The Bartolomeo Colleoni was sunk and the fleeing Giovanni Delle Nere was damaged before Sydney now low on ammunition and within range of Italian bombers ceased the action. Sydney returned to her base at Alexandria to a hero’s welcome from the British Fleet.
