Historic Wollombi 40.5cm x 29cm Original Oil on Board by John Vander SOLD!
Wollombi is an early 19th Century village set in a lush green valley situated “where the waters meet” 10km south west of Cessnock on the original convict-built Great Northern Road to the Upper Hunter. A forgotten past lingers on in what was once a thriving rural township with a colourful history of convicts and bushrangers and a past rich with Aboriginal legend.
Today the tiny village still contains several original stone buildings of interest. As one of the Hunter’s most charming early settlements, Wollombi is held in high regard by the National Trust and is considered a fascinating part of our heritage.
