Ellalong Hotel was built in 1924 during the mining boom and is situated in the historical Village of Ellalong, which was established in 1863. The village is located in the Hunter Valley in the LGA of Cessnock.
The meaning of Ellalong is “The Jewel Of The Mountain” and is situated at the foot of the Watagan Mountain.
The main source of income for the inhabitants is coal mining, therefore the local pub served for many years as the drinking and meeting place for the local miners.
