Afternoon Light (Common Bronzewings)

Afternoon Light (Common Bronzewings) Original Watercolour and Gouache 60cm x 40cm

Peter’s Inspiration: “I chose transparent watercolour and opaque gouache to make use of the contrasting qualities of the two types of paint. Watercolour was suited to showing the reflected glow of sunlight in the open woodland and to separate background from foreground; I used gouache to render the soft powdery-textured plumage of the birds and the bright contrasting colours and hard edges of the iridescent wing covert feathers. Gouache also works well to show the texture and play of light on the foreground branches and leaves”.
