Pat Murphy

Landscape Painter Oil on Board

Pat paints “en plain air”. She takes her boards, paints, easel, palette out into the paddock along with thermos and sandwiches, and sits with the flies and cows to paint the scene.

Frequent painting trips into the country have resulted in subjects such as panoramas, serene rivers, lovely old gold mining towns and their characters, cows and sheep grazing in contentment and huge old river gums being captured in Pat’s paintings. Her aim was also to meet the people who tell the stories of the way it is, and the way it was. By the stories they tell, Pat can then enhance the feeling of country life in her artworks.

Born in Holbrook, Sydney Pat has always had a love of drawing and enjoyed art during her school years. Her interest in oil painting was kindled while on a property near Binnaway with her husband and four small children. At this time there was only limited time for painting. When Pat’s family moved back to Sydney to live, she was able to devote more time to painting – a constant in her life since the 1980’s.
