Right in the heart of Morpeth Village, in the Hunter Region NSW, just 2 hours
north of Sydney.
Using old fashioned equipment, watch as your cordial is brewed and stirred by hand, bottled just four at a time, labelled individually and packed into cartons ready to deliver to your door. Then taste the finished product… There are nine flavours to choose from.
GINGER BEER is normally brewed using a ginger beer plant. If your mum used to brew her own, you will remember the hassle of feeding the plant and checking the brew and then the inevitable exploding of bottles! Now you can enjoy real Old Fashioned Ginger Beer from Ma Beattie just by removing the cork from the bottle and adding lemonade or soda. It really is delicious.
Turn your ginger beer into a Ginger Spider by adding a generous dollop of ice-cream into the top of your glass. Add a dash of Ginger Beer Cordial to your stir fries for an instant ginger taste, use as a topping drizzled over ice-cream. A nip of Ginger Beer to fruit juice really enhances those fruity flavours. It’s an essential ingredient in a tropical fruit drink or fresh fruit punch.
RASPBERRY VINEGAR is an old Victorian Cordial. It used to be served in the pubs throughout Victoria as a non alcoholic ‘Pub Raspberry’. On Sunday School and family picnics in days of old, the drink traditionally served, was a home made raspberry vinegar. It is really a cordial. The ‘vinegar’ description comes about because of one of the ingredients, acetic acid. So you use Raspberry Vinegar as a cordial, with water or lemonade, soda or mineral water, in mixed drinks such as Tequila Sunrise or to put over Banana Sundaes. Add to milkshakes & over ice-cream.
SARSPARILLA originates from Queensland. Also a ‘Pub Drink’, it’s the one your grandma will remember. It was used for medicinal purposes and was said to purify the blood… it smells and tastes something like cough mixture! But is enjoyed by many. It will make a great gift for grandparents. Use as a cordial, mixed with lemonade, soda, as an ice-cream topping. Best of all it makes a great ‘Spider’ base using a dash of Sarsparilla, top up with lemonade and add a scoop of ice-cream.
ORANGE OR LEMON CORDIAL Just add water, lemonade or soda for a refreshing drink. Add it to your punch. Flavour ice cubes with them. Your guests will ask for the recipe!
LIME is used with lemonade or soda and is a great base for mixed drinks, Scotch, Gin Lime & Soda etc. Refreshing with water & ice.
BITTERS LEMON LIME If you are a fan of a bitters on a hot day, you’ll love this! Mix with soda water, or lemonade to make a little sweeter, for a refreshing non alcoholic drink. Bitters Lemon Lime is also Fantastic with your alcoholic drinks - add a dash for Vodka Lemon Lime, or try this recipe: Soak a sugar lump in 10ml of Bitters Lemon Lime in a chilled cocktail glass. Add 30ml of Brandy, fill rest of glass with Champagne, then stir, for a delicious Champagne Cocktail.
PORTELLO Tastes somewhat like the old ‘Cherry Cheer’. Some say it’s a cross between Coke & Raspberry. Best mixed with soda water, but water or lemonade can be used. Children just love the taste of Portello. Drizzle over ice-cream or dress up a dessert plate with a swirl of Portello.
PASSIONFRUIT can be mixed with water, lemonade or soda and has a magnificent full flavour of passionfruit. Fantastic added to punch on a Summer day. Passionfruit is everyone’s favourite.
How Much Cordial
Do I Use? Ma Beattie’s of Morpeth old fashioned handmade cordials are
very concentrated. The ratio to work with is one part cordial with eight parts
lemonade/water. You only need to use a very small amount! It’s about
half the amount of a commercial cordial. Ma Beattie’s Cordial is suitable
for soda streams.
