About the Historic Town of Morpeth


Morpeth is a unique craft village in the Heart of the Hunter Region, just two hours north of Sydney, and forty minutes from Hunter Wine Country and Port Stephens Blue Water Wonderland. Morpeth is just five minutes off the New England Highway (turn off the Highway at East Maitland), and ten minutes off the Pacific Highway (turn off the Highway at Raymond Terrace).

Getting to Morpeth from Sydney is easy… simply follow the F3 Freeway all the way until it meets the New England Highway at a T intersection. (Don't make any turns. You will be following the signs to North Coast and Maitland.) Turn left onto the New England Highway and travel (10 minutes) towards Maitland. When you drive up a hill with a set of traffic lights and Greenhills Shopping Centre and McDonalds on the left keep going…. Three sets traffic lights ahead you will see 2 car dealerships and furniture shops on the corners. This is Melbourne Street traffic lights. Turn right here and follow the signs straight ahead (5 minutes) to Morpeth. Don't make any turns - upon entering Morpeth village, Campbell's Store is the first two storey building on the corner you will see.

At Multi Award Winning Campbell's Store Craft Centre, shopping is a real experience….. wander at your leisure through 13 speciality Craft Shops, Tearoom, and of course, Morpeth Gallery. In the Craft Center you may select from the work of 784 of Australia's most talented crafts people - all under the one roof. The Store is open from Thursday to Sunday, 10am - 5pm when you will be treated to Free Ginger Beer, Fudge & Honey Tasting.

Friendly old fashioned service awaits you in this beautifully restored building. When you have finished looking around Campbell's Store, it's time to move on down the street - there are another forty specialist shops and tearooms to go! Morpeth is a historic village on the banks of the Hunter River where several Aussie icon businesses had their humble beginnings. Arnotts (biscuit fame), Brambles (transport), Soul Pattinson (chemist) and Sims (metal foundry).
