RON GIBBINGS-JOHNS Ron Gibbings-Johns was born in 1956 in England, his introduction to art schools began after meeting Richard Siemmens who agreed to teach him perspective and painting according to the realist tradition, after which he attended the McNiell Academy of realist art and then the Gregory Smith School of painters, Essendon, Victoria, his interest in painting has steadily grown. Over the years Ron has exhibited regularly, his works receiving much recognition. Ron has taught art both in Australia and Overseas. Although Ron paints a variety of subject matter, he has an enduring fascination for still life work, this is reflected in his studio as it overflows with many props that he has accumulated over the years, then at the right moment are dusted off to play there part in putting paint to canvas. Of late his landscape work has been an added delight, in that on many occasions he is able to work alongside his son Daniel who has a great capacity for landscape work. Ron’s work is influenced by a variety of artists such as Chardin, Vermeer and Rembrandt, his objective in painting is not complex by any means, simply put he says, ‘I find great beauty in many things, a vase of flowers in soft light is a treasure, old pots, a pair of old boots, ceramics of all manner, all things have there own beauty in the right light to capture light falling on such things is a stimulating challenge, a fulfilling task. I hope that the paintings that come from my brush can in a whisper echo the beauties of the natural world, if others hear that whisper then the painter is rewarded’. The artist has accumulated many awards over the years and his works are represented in collections both in Australia and Overseas. | |
