Andrew Patsalou

Renowned Australian wildlife artist was born in Cyprus in 1950 migrated to Australia in 1962 with his family, first residing in Darwin where he lived until 1966. While in Darwin Andrew attended high school and became interested in art, selling his first painting at the age of 14. He held his first exhibition at the age of 16, which resulted in a sell-out. His paintings consisted of mainly landscapes depicting some wildlife of the Northern Territory. He exhibited in various art shows of the Northern Territory winning many art competitions. During this time Andrew became familiar with the Australian bush and wildlife, travelled extensively through the Northern Territory covering Kakadu, Arnhern Land and all the way to Alice Springs, also the north Western Australian region (Kananara) as well the islands of the Gulf of Carpentaria observing nature.

Andrew moved to Sydney where he studied art East Sydney Art College for 3 years. During his studies, Andrew continued to exhibit his paintings in various Sydney art galleries with great success. Following his studies at East Sydney Andrew moved to Europe where he worked and visited many European art institutions enriching knowledge in art. Following his stint overseas Andrew returned to Sydney where he continued to work in the arts becoming the manager of an art studio for illustration where he worked for 12 years. During this period Andrew continued to paint for art galleries in wildlife art and supplying mainly the Southlands Art Gallery in Canberra where he could hardly keep up with demand, other galleries were the Saints Gallery, Prouds
