Wildlife Artist Megan has been painting in Kakadu National Park since 1986 where she sketches from real life aided by the occasional photograph to enhance her memory. Her pencil and pen and ink sketches of the animals and birds and scenery hang around her studio where she paints these stunning bright works of art. Megan believes it is important for scientific integrity that physical characteristics and social behaviour are portrayed accurately for her work and each of the wildlife species she paints. Megan grew up in Coffin Bay National Park, South Australia before she moved to the northern territory to live. She completed the last two years of her high school by correspondence rather than attend an interstate boarding school. Megan than returned to Adelaide where she studied for four years completing a Bachelor of Design (Honours) specialising in Illustration, through the University of South Australia.
"Sunbirds" 1991 During this time she registered a business and commenced producing a series of Gift cards, company logos, graphic design concepts and tourism merchandise. Clients in South Australia, commissioned her to do wedding invitations, and children's books etc. But it is her art that is now becoming better known. She already has her paintings scattered in private homes and office blocks throughout Australia and some overseas. Megan's preferred medium is gouache which is an opaque watercolour usually used only for broad areas of flat colour. Using gouache Megan has developed a style that maximises the vividness of hue and depth of colour without forsaking fine detail and quality of composition.
"Kookaburras" 1991 Megan also uses pen and ink with watercolour for cartoons and character sketches and landscapes. Like all wildlife artists Megan has a keen interest in the conservation and sustainable development of our natural resources; observing Australian wildlife in particular Australian birds. Her visits to many Australian National Parks on her bright blue Harley-Davidson 1200 Sportster makes her a somewhat unique Australian artist.
"Kookaburras" 1991 She has distinctive style which will hold her in good stead as she climbs the ladder in the art world. With her brilliant and vibrant coloured paintings she will quickly be picked up by organisations wishing to reproduce her work which will increase her reputation as a fine Australian artist. | |
